Search Indexing

To make sure your website shows up in search engines you have a few steps to take!

Step 1: Create a Sitemap

• If using a website builder, this may already be created for you. Try visiting https://yourdomain/sitemap.xml

• If using WordPress, I recommend getting the YoastSEO plugin as it builds a prettier sitemap.

• If building your own site, follow this example.

Step 2: Google Search Console

• Go to https://search.google.com/search-console and add a new site.

  • • I suggest using URL prefix.

    • Use any of the options listed to verify your ownership of the website. HTML tag or HTML file will probably be easiest.

• Once verified, go to Sitemaps and enter the URL of your sitemap.

Step 3: Bing Webmaster Tools

• Go to https://www.bing.com/webmasters/ and add a new site.

  • • If you login with a Google account, you can import everything from Google Search Console.

    • You can also verify your website similar to how Google Search Console does.

• Once verified, you can add additional sitemaps from the Sitemaps tab.
